On Wednesday, Julie and Carlos Santillan, Ken McIntyre, Wally Borschel and I did some trail work on the west end of the Secret Canyon trail, starting near it's junction with the Espinosa Trail.  We had lovely warm weather, but cool enough water in Pine Creek that we could stash a bottle of beer to cool down for lunch.  While the beer was cooling, our small group cleared about .5 mile of trail.  Before and after pics are attached.  And, as I explained later that day to my wife Anita, "I...

The March 17 SD Trailfit "Overflow" volunteer consisted of 10 hearty souls who gathered with work tools at the trailhead and proceeded to hike up Secret Canyon for 2.5 miles to commence working the southern section of the canyon.  An impressive .6 miles of trail was cleared and all of us enjoyed the beauty and views that were afforded at every turn.  The hike back out was interrupted by a 6 foot rattler that made it clear we were not welcome on his trail :-), but other than that a spec...

I must say that the weather gods smiled upon us this weekend with unseasonably warm temperatures.  The weekend began bright and early on Saturday when a crew of Alex Batchelor, Eli Ellefsen, George Katsikaris, Bryce Williams, Ken McIntyre and yours truly met up at Paso Picacho campground.   Alex, by the way, is the current record holder for coming the longest distance to do trail work:  all the way from London!  Or as Alex put it:  "It's the farthest I've ever gone to do a bit of garde...

To borrow a phrase from Winnie the Pooh, it was a blustery Windsday, when we arrived at the Pine Creek trailhead.  I passed out the new official Friend of the Trail t-shirts, which were modelled by our wind-blown crew of Ken McIntyre, Howard Wiggins (just back in action after minor surgery), Julie and Carlos Santillan and Brian Recore (see attached photo).  We hiked into the point where we had left off previously and began a new assault on the over growth.
